Scores and Interpretation

 

Results can be obtained within 13 days of testing.

  • Band scores are recorded on a Test Report Form, showing overall ability and performance in all 4 modules.
  • There are 9 band scores, from Band 1 - Non-User (essentially no ability to use the language beyond a few isolated words) to Band 9 - Expert User (has full, operational command of the language, accurate and fluent with complete understanding).
  • To achieve an Overall Band Score of 6.0 or 6.5, you need to be competent in all 4 modules at a higher level than that of an SPM credit.
  • There is NO PASS for IELTS.
  • Your score shows your proposed institution of study, how good your command of English is and how much tuition you may need before you begin your course.
  • For Australia-bound students here, the IDP offices throughout Malaysia could tell you what IELTS scores are required for entrance to various schools and universities in Australia.
